Research Progress in Impressed Current Cathodic Protection Technology for Polar Ships

Abstract

This paper introduces the composition of impressed current cathodic protection system for polar ships. Then the research progress and application status of power supply equipment, auxiliary anode and reference electrode are described respectively. High-precision control of the hull protection potential can be achieved by high-frequency switching potentiostats. Titanium-based metal oxide anodes meet the operational requirements of icebreakers of different classes serving in polar ice regions. High-purity zinc and silver/silver chloride reference electrodes can be used to monitor the hull protection potential of polar ships. Moreover, the optimized design technology for cathodic protection of polar ships is analyzed, and the numerical simulation method will be used to replace the traditional empirical method in the calculation of protection parameters for polar ships. Finally, the future development trend of impressed current cathodic protection technology for polar ships is prospected.
