Analysis of Airworthiness Standards for Aircraft Landing Gear and Door Icing

Abstract

A systematic analysis was conducted on the domestic and international airworthiness certification standards for aircraft landing gear and door icing, as well as laboratory icing test requirements. With a focus on relevant regulations of the FAA and the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), along with the military standards of NATO, the United States, and China, the current application status of mainstream international icing airworthiness clauses (e.g., CCAR-25-R4 Appendix C, FAR Part 25, etc.) and laboratory icing environmental test standards (e.g., RTCA/DO-160G, MIL-STD-810H, GJB 150.22A, etc.) were examined. The similarities and differences in test methods and conditions prescribed by these standards for laboratory icing tests were identified. By analyzing domestic military and civil performance standards for landing gear and doors, and comparing them with a case study of the airworthiness certification process for a specific aircraft, an evaluation procedure for assessing the icing protection performance of landing gear and door systems during airworthiness certification was proposed. This procedure provides a technical basis and operational guidelines for icing airworthiness certification during the aircraft development phase. The research findings are of reference value for improving the aircraft icing airworthiness certification system in China.
